take a friend home for the weekend

this past weekend Jillian and I took an adventure up north to Boise. my home city.

We experienced refined culture at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival

We hiked in the Boise foothills....Jill obviously loved it.
We went to the Farmers Market where Jillian got a delicious crepe
and I got hand shaken mint limade and baby-size doughnuts (not pictured)

Then we shared home made root beer and met a friendly cop.
Then we met the locals and finished with world famous sconed at
Merritts Country Cafe.
oh, thats Griffin. Look for him at the U next year.

Gotta Have It!

No, I am no celeb stylist, and lets be real, some days I could use a little style help myself.
I do not pour over every fashion magazine and I rarely keep up with the "seasons."
But I love looking nice.
And that is all there is.
When you look nice, you feel better. I am a strong believer that how crappy you feel should be indirectly proportional to how well you dress. For example, I had RAGING cramps today. but I said no to the leggings and tshirt and YES to the white summery blouse and high-waisted skirt. and I felt better.

Another quick tip: dress in classics. You'll never look back and say "what the heck was I thinking??"
more tips to come.

So that is me. And these are my summer must haves! Top 11 (cause everyone does Top 10..and I over achieve)

1. A light, floral scent.
I am a new convert to this, J'adore L'eau. Its my new signature. For the summer, look for something lighter. Go for a cologne rather than a perfume and layer it with a matching lotion. Layering will last longer and is not as overpowering and heavy as a perfume.

2. Denim Blouse
yes, I am obsessed. but really it goes with anything, dressed up dressed down. throw it on with leggings, wear it with a skirt. I. love. it.

3. A Fun Skirt
Go for a pleat or a print! (very Emma Pillsbury) maxi skirts are in too! (can you say 1975?!) but I love circle skirts because they are just so fun to wear! you just feel feminine in them! theyre cute with a tank top or a blouse (perhaps a denim blouse...??) put one on. spin around. you'll get it.

4. Pop of Yellow
it just says, "I'm happy!"
(shameless plug for the denim blouse...)

5. Ruffles
très féminin, no?
but really, theyre so fun!

6. Coast Sunglasses
new favorite: UGreek glasses. swiped em from the orientation table. now I can rep it 24/sev. oh, and they were free. Thats the real skill. try to get these for free...someone is always giving them away.

7. Norts
shorts + nike = norts. The better way to work out. or run errands. a step above sweats.

8. Feather Earrings
get in touch with your native side. these are just plain fun! and they are just great accents for anything!

9. Topsiders. duh.
I remember when there were but a few of us rockin the sperrys. trend setter? yes. or maybe preppy FINALLY made it out west. but for realsies. these are great. slip em on. they go with anything. tip: if you are like me and you have sweaty feet, but a dryer sheet in them when you take em off for the night. it'll help the stank.

10. Lace (not crochet)
I know crochet is the cool thing for summer, but I really dont find it flattering. not even on the VS models. It wasnt flattering in the 60s and 70s, it still isnt. Go for lace. it looks better, its sexier but in that timeless classy way.

11. Harem Pant (also known as Aaladin pants)
ok all. keep your eyes open. I am on the hunt for the perfect harem pant. These are statement pieces. I just think they are So fierce with wedges and a tank. throw on a cuff and those feather earrings.

eclectic and long, I know. but I hope you enjoyed the first full style post!

more fun stuff to come!
